On empathy, family legacy, and fragrance as a living form of identity
Within the universe of Italian artistic perfumery, Tiziana Terenzi occupies a role that transcends traditional definitions. As co-founder and creative soul of the Terenzi world, she embodies its emotional architecture - the bridge between creation and human experience, between craftsmanship and presence.
If the laboratory gives structure to fragrance, Tiziana gives it voice. Her work unfolds not only through materials, but through dialogue, listening, and the preservation of a familial philosophy rooted in authenticity and warmth. In a global niche landscape that often accelerates toward expansion, she remains anchored in values: integrity, emotional truth, and the idea of beauty found in uniqueness rather than perfection.
In this conversation with The Nosepress, Tiziana Terenzi reflects on empathy as a creative force, on family as origin rather than concept, and on perfume as a universal language that speaks before words.

Interview
1) As a co-founder of the Terenzi universe, your role goes beyond creation and touches emotion, presence, and identity. How would you describe your personal mission within the world of fragrance?
My mission is to translate emotion into presence, to take a lived moment and let it become something you can carry on your skin. For me, fragrance is not decoration; it’s a liquid memory, a way to make beauty last beyond the instant.
I would add that we also bring our own idea of dolce vita, along with messages of gratitude and positivity. Our idea of beauty is not in perfection, but in uniqueness, with its lights and its shadows. Our universe is born from travel, from life experience, from emotions shared like warmth around a fire - and my role is to protect that soul, so every creation remains honest, intimate, and alive.
2) You are often seen as the emotional and human bridge between the perfume and the person who wears it. How important is empathy in the way you present and protect a brand like Tiziana Terenzi?
Empathy is everything. A perfume only becomes complete when it meets a person, when it touches their story, their sensitivity, their identity. I try to listen before I speak to understand what someone is searching for, what they miss, what they want to express without words.
Protecting a brand like ours means protecting trust: being present, human, and faithful to the emotion at the origin of the work.

3) The Terenzi universe is deeply rooted in family, memory, and shared vision. How does this familial dimension influence the way the brand communicates and connects with its audience worldwide?
For us, “family” is not a concept we add later - it’s the origin. It means that every decision begins with the same question you would ask at home: does this feel true, does this feel respectful, does this carry warmth?
When a brand is born inside a family, you don’t communicate to impress; you communicate to share. You speak with the intimacy of a memory, not the distance of a campaign.
Our fragrances are often linked to moments lived together - travels, rituals, discoveries, small details that become unforgettable. That kind of storytelling doesn’t rely on trends; it relies on emotion. And emotion travels well across borders. People in different cultures may interpret a memory differently, but they recognize sincerity immediately.
The familial dimension also creates a very specific relationship with our audience: more like a community than a market. When someone chooses one of our creations, they’re not only choosing a scent; they’re entering a world made of passion, craftsmanship, and shared vision. That is why the connection can be global while still feeling personal - its language is care, presence, and authenticity.
4) While perfumers speak through raw materials, you speak through experience and dialogue. How do you translate an invisible art like fragrance into a human story that people can feel and understand?
Perfumers speak through materials; I speak through the experience those materials create. I translate fragrance the way you translate music - with images, emotions, and rhythm.
Natural essences are like words or notes: you compose them to tell a story people can feel. And because fragrance is invisible, the story must be even more sincere. You help someone recognize themselves in a feeling, in a place, in a memory they didn’t know they still carried.
5) The niche perfume world has evolved rapidly in recent years. From your perspective, what values should never be compromised when a brand grows internationally?
Integrity, first. Growth should never dilute craftsmanship, the quality of raw materials, or the emotional truth behind each creation. And the relationship with people must remain human and respectful - never reduced to speed or volume.
6) You represent the brand across cultures, countries, and sensibilities. What do you believe fragrance reveals about human identity beyond language and borders?
Fragrance reveals the part of us that exists before language: instinct, memory, desire, comfort, and courage. Across cultures, people may dress or speak differently, but everyone understands what it means to feel drawn to a scent, protected by it, or transformed by it.
Perfume carries a universal form of beauty - made of uniqueness, not perfection. It can quietly transmit gratitude and positivity without words. That’s why I believe perfume is a form of identity that does not need translation: it is emotion made visible through presence.
7) On a personal level, what does perfume mean to you today - not as a product, but as a presence in everyday life?
Today perfume is a daily companion, a gesture of alignment. It helps me enter the right inner space for the day - calm, luminous, focused, or daring.
It is also a small private ritual, a way of staying close to what matters. Some notes, like vanilla, carry a deep sense of safety and tenderness for me, almost like returning home. In that sense, perfume is not a product at all - it is a quiet form of wellbeing, and a very personal truth.

Conclusion
The Nosepress sincerely thanks Tiziana Terenzi for this generous and profoundly human conversation. In a world where growth often risks overshadowing authenticity, her voice reminds us that true expansion begins with care, presence, and emotional integrity.
We wish her continued clarity, creative vitality, and the strength to preserve the warmth at the heart of the Terenzi universe - allowing fragrance to remain what it was always meant to be: a living bridge between memory and identity.
