Ensang Noir by L’Entropiste: Between Rose and Smoke

A complex unisex chypre crafted by Bertrand Duchaufour with quiet intensity.

In Ensang Noir, the house of L’Entropiste captures the tension between vitality and shadow - the flicker of light over a surface of smoke. Created by the master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, this unisex floral chypre unfolds as a sensual paradox: vivid, airy, and yet profoundly deep.

The opening is unexpectedly alive - aldehydes bursting like morning frost over blackcurrant, coriander, and cucumber, evoking an abstract freshness, green yet enigmatic. It feels like the first breath before a revelation.

As the heart blooms, red rose, magnolia, and peony lend their texture - velvety and luminous, almost tactile. There’s a sense of movement, of fabric in motion, of life pulsing beneath an invisible surface.

The base is where Ensang Noir becomes a ritual. Incense and birch smoke spiral through the air, grounded by opoponax, patchouli, and vetiver, before soft threads of caramel settle the storm. The sweetness here is not comfort - it’s surrender, a warm echo of human skin after fire and rain.

Every note feels precisely placed, every contrast intentional - this is the art of Duchaufour at his most introspective.

Ensang Noir is more than a fragrance - it’s a chiaroscuro painted in scent. The aldehydes lift, the florals breathe, the woods whisper. It lingers on skin like a fading echo

of a secret - intimate, magnetic, and modern.

A perfume for those who embrace contradiction: the poet, the night walker, the one who sees light even through darkness.
